Essentially, I'm in a dillema whether to choose an i5 with a 128gb SSD or an i3 with a 256gb SSD. Https /I would greatly appreciate any feedback on which to buy. To fit it into a micro atx case would be all I need to game with the next 3 years. Borderlands 2 1280x800 120hz is fluid, and looks unbelievable. ![]() CPU wattage would be tricky.ĭark souls never looked better.to the point I was feeling motion sick. I KNOW amds hate overclocking with 4 banks filled.I will be testing again.Īs for looking for another m4n motherboard.I am wondering if they made a Micro-atx m4n motherboard. ![]() I have another set coming next week so I will have 8gb across 4 sticks. another $2 for generic aluminum heat spreaders. When I get the spreaders, Ill take a finished photo. However, getting 2 sticks 8gb working was not terrible at all, and is a very very cost effective solution. 16gb is only possible using ddr2-400/667 sticks of memory OR having memory with high latency. This leads me to believe that some "half-truths" were told on the box & in the QVL. I would even question buying a 16gb kit from gskill. IF you are not guaranteed specific speeds by a chip maker, don't buy. I have read a few stories of similar situations from people buying them. ![]() There is only so much available with CHEAP ram. However, I looked at timings and voltages of the GSKILL and they are identical. A quick google search of ddr2 400 comes back with plenty of 4gb sticks, but they are back to being expensive. It would throw out all the settings, and things would need manually set to "double" in order to break even.A stable system could manage. I would probally pick ddr 800, and reduce the overall bus speed by half from 200 to 100. In order to do this, I would need to underclock the whole system like with older opterons. I don't have a option for pc2-ddr400, or I would have tried it. I HIGHLY doubt I will get 16gb from this kit working at anything less then 450-500mhz. There are X number of Ram chips required to get to 16gb of ram, and the required bandwidth gets spread out. I think that the On-Die memory controller is the limit. This memory is listed on the QVL, however it is not possible to get working using basic settings. Here is my Opinions based on years of tweaking NB voltages, HT link speeds and cranking bus speeds way way higher then most people think is reasonable. ![]() I may find another m4n motherboard just from my findings. Secondly, I bought this board brand new almost 10 years ago, and I am glad to have fallen in love with it again. I feel fairly comfortable making a few statements:įirstly, you get what you pay for. I have been overclocking AMD chips since my old K6-2.
